ASEAN NCAP: LAUNCH OF THE OASIM PROJECT BY UTAC CERAM
UTAC CERAM launches the OASIM project (Overall ASEAN market Safety Improvement for Motorcycles), in order to improve the safety of motorized two-wheelers in South-East Asia (ASEAN). Engaged in a vehicle safety management / evaluation process, ASEAN NCAP, born from a collaboration between the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research and Global NCAP, has devised a specific work stream to improve the safety of users of motorized two-wheelers. UTAC CERAM is leading the project by coordinating actions and relations between manufacturers, Tier 1 equipment manufacturers and the various institutional bodies.
This 2-year project aims to improve road safety in the South-East Asian region, which is currently critical for motorcyclists. After an accident study, tests will be developed to reproduce the most representative accident situations in the region, in order to evaluate the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) fitted to vehicles. Eventually, the results from this project can be incorporated into the new test protocols of ASEAN NCAP's evaluation program, as planned by its 2026 roadmap, with the aim of encouraging the automotive industries to develop such systems to improve the overall road safety of the region.
